My Weight-loss Journey

Namaste my dear friends!! I am so glad that some of you asked me to share some weight loss tips and the techniques which I used myself to reduce extra weight. Some of you already know that I follow the Ayurvedic diet and Yogic regime in my daily life to keep myself healthy and happy.

I am going to share my insight about Ayurvedic principles and tips that can be used for not only weight loss but also for keeping good health. The first principle I would like to share with you is very common in Ayurveda and Yoga. The principle of Tri-Dosha. According to Ayurveda, three life energies (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) residing in each individual since birth in various degrees, and that’s called the “Prakriti” unique body constitution. Health is the state of perfect equilibrium of Tri-Dosha and disequilibrium leads to health issues. These forces come into existence by five 5 great elements Ether, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth.

Weight gain is a state of Kapha and Pitta imbalance. Kapha is the force responsible for nourishing our body and Pitta is responsible for digestion and metabolism. There can be various other factors responsible for weight gain but most of the cases High Kapha and Low Pitta is the reason for gaining extra weight.

I gained weight during my first pregnancy as that was Kapha time for my body. My body was carrying and nurturing a baby in my womb. I had 2nd baby soon after my 1st one and I started working on weight loss after that. I was quite knowledgeable about my own constitution so I designed my diet and daily routine according to that. What I did can help most of you but I will suggest, you gather some knowledge about your own constitution before you start following these tips. The tips I am going to share are for Vata and Pitta enhancing to bring the Kapha in balance.

  • Morning detox is very essential for weight loss, I used to take fresh Alov-vera gel or Triphala in the morning with warm water.
  • Walking/Exercise for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening.
  • My Yoga regime was – 5 Sun Salutation 3 times a day along with exercise.
  • Meditation -15 minutes after waking up and 15 minutes before going to bed.
  • Cutting down my carbs, sugar, and caffeine helped me to control my craving.
  • Drinking warm water, especially before and after the meal with a 1-hour gap.
  • Green tea helped me a lot.
  • Early dinner and going to bed early helped my body to heal itself on a subtle level.
  • Adding lots of fiber in form of veggies and fruits helped me in terms of improved digestion and excretion.
  • Some specific herbs I added to my diet for better digestion and absorption like – black pepper, cinnamon, and carom seeds.

Hope all these tips will help. Weight loss is a journey, be positive, patient, and honest with yourself. Never give and try to keep yourself motivated. Ayurveda and Yoga work slow so it can take some time to see the results. You can reach me directly for anything, would love to help and share much more about Ayurveda.
